NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks meandered slightly higher after a lower start on Friday, with investors opting not to get overtly cheerful about economic reports that had consumer prices holding steady in April. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU 8,358, +26.29, +0.32%) edged 27.32 points higher to 8,358.64. The S&P 500 Index (SPX 892.58, -0.49, -0.06%) rose 2.13 points to 895.20. The Nasdaq Composite (COMP 1,696, +6.83, +0.40%) gained 4.89 points to 1,694.10.
